August 20th, 2020 – Outdoor Channel Asia, an M2030 partner, is helping to raise awareness for malaria this year on World Mosquito Day, which is observed annually on August 20th. For World Mosquito Day, Outdoor Channel Asia will begin airing an M2030 public service announcement during commercial breaks. The video clip will remind viewers that malaria remains a deadly disease, but that eliminating malaria in Asia by 2030 is still possible if we keep up the fight.
As the world continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital that the global community does not lose focus on other deadly diseases that we have made so much progress towards eliminating. While fighting COVID-19 is the top priority around the world, the WHO warns that health service interruptions due to COVID-19 could potentially double the number of deaths caused by malaria this year. This could undo decades of progress in malaria elimination, putting the world back to a level of malaria deaths not seen in 20 years. Outdoor Channel’s support helps keep malaria in the spotlight, reminding us how close we are to eliminating malaria in Asia.
Outdoor Channel Asia focuses on real life adventure, and is dedicated to outdoor lifestyles and entertainment. The network reaches over 10 million households across Asia.
