Earlier this week, representatives from City Mart Holding Company, Ltd. (CMHL) visited the headquarters of the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) in Yangon to present a donation in support of MRCS malaria elimination programs.
Half of the CMHL donation was generated by CMHL customers through CMHL’s ongoing M2030 campaign. The remaining half of CMHL’s donation to MRCS was a matching contribution by CMHL’s City Love and Hope Foundation.
Win Myint Aung, Group Corporate Affairs Director for CMHL, presented the donation check from CMHL to Dr. Maung Maung Myint, President of the Myanmar Red Cross Society.
Launched in July of last year, the CMHL M2030 campaign allows customers to donate to malaria elimination programs during checkout at select locations of City Mart Supermarkets, marketplace by City Mart, and Ocean Supercenters in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw. Customers can also donate via the City Rewards app. 100% of funds collected by CMHL’s M2030 campaign go to MRCS in support of their malaria elimination programs in Myanmar.
Malaria still presents a significant problem in Myanmar. Over 75% of the population, or almost 8 million people, live in high-risk areas for malaria. National statistics report over 200,000 cases of malaria per year. The Myanmar Red Cross Society, with its community-based malaria programs in malaria endemic areas, plays a critical role in the goal of eliminating malaria by 2030. Through the M2030 campaign run by City Mart, everyday shoppers are joining the fight with City Mart and MRCS to make Myanmar malaria-free.
